Podcast Reflection

1. What are you most proud of with this podcast?

During the process of making my podcast, I am most proud of being able to perform a proper interview using a clear voice, asking many follow up questions, and challenging the interviewee. With the help of Sean Thomas, I am proud I can perform and feel more comfortable performing an interview.

1. What was the biggest challenge with the podcast?

The biggest challenge I faced with my podcast was the volume. As I recorded my introduction, bridges, and sign-off close to a microphone on garage band, my voice is very loud. Whereas, my soundbites from the interview are very quiet and barely audible as it was recorded on quicktime. As well as, due to the interviewee being quite a distance away.

1. What do you wish you had more time to fine-tune?

If I was able to have more time to edit, I wish I could do more research to get more supporting information to back up my topic.

1. What unintended learning did you discover?

During the process of making my podcast, some unintended learning I faced was how to make a script and writing the process of a news package. Though Sean Thomas and Mrs. Antonowicz taught us how to create a news package, there was more discovery of how to write one once we got started.

1. How did the interviews go? How did you build rapport with your interviewees? Share an excerpt from an interview.

The interviews I conducted went really well. I constantly used open ended questions and a conclusion question, "Would you like to add anything else?", to improve my build rapport.

1. How successful were you in listening closely during interviews and asking thoughtful follow-up questions? Share an excerpt from an interview.

I was successful with listening closely to the interviewee as I asked many follow up questions. After the interviewee talked, sometimes my follow up question would challenge the interviewee to get there opinion on a different view. For example, at first I asked Mr. Robertaccio: "What do you think SAS could do to build its community to decrease negative peer influence?" Mr. Robertaccio mainly answered saying: "If we have more display of all the talent here and more of an opportunity to share it, I think it would be wonderful." So then, I replied to Mr. Robertaccio's answer by mainly saying, "Could recognising more talents and achievements, for those who are struggling could struggle even more for feeling they can't reach that standard and level?" (4:25- 5:46). This question then lead me to a deeper understanding of Mr. Robertaccio's answer and thought.

1. Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I don't believe there is anything else needed to share.

Impact of Peer Influence on Student's Academic Performance

Government 101

1. Monarchy -- A government by one ruler such as a king or queen.  Passed down from one generation to the next in the same family, hereditary.  

2. Oligarchy -- A government by an ruling elite group of people.  The rulers make decisions to benefit themselves.

3. Democracy -- The rules and decisions are made by a majority (51%).  A super majority is 60%.  

4. Republic -- Decisions are held accountable to the law.  The majority doesn’t make the final decision.  The decision is up to the courts.  

5. Anarchy  -- There is no government.  People are allowed to make their own decisions.  This includes defending their own land, property, and themselves.

Why does America have federal and state governments?

America has federal and state governments because state governments deals with small issues in their country and enforce things that can help their state. Whereas, the federal government deals with international issues and common laws across the country. Different local states have different problems that they worry about.

BAND: 2016 Music Festival Concert Reflection

What is expected of me as a performer:  

1. What are my responsibilities leading up to the performance, in terms of my own practicing?  

The responsibilities that are contributed leading up to the concert included listening to the music at home and playing along, review the counting, double checking if the correct notes are played, and going to the after school rehearsals.

1. What are my responsibilities on stage during a performance?

My responsibilities on stage during a performance is to make sure I don't talk or make any noises after a song has played, to make sure I follow and look at the conductor, and be prepared for when to play or switch pieces.

1. What will I do differently in preparing for the next concert?

Next concert I will make sure to look up at the conductor more to check timing while playing and to notice when other instruments have important parts. Therefore, it will keep me up to part and know when to quiet down or become louder during a piece.

What is expected of me as an audience member:

1. What do I need to be doing while someone is performing?

While other groups are performing, as an audience member I make sure that I am quiet and if other people are talking I will remind them to keep quiet. As well as, to keep seated in my seat and not moving a lot or getting up.

1. What should I do if people around me are not being good audience members?

Remind them to quiet down or stop what they are doing. If they don't listen, you can ask to get the chaperone to remind them as well.

1. What will I do differently as an audience member for next concert?

Next concert I will make sure to keep my instrument quieter, so if I shift in my seat it won't bang and make a lot of noise.

These are some of the things I learned from Dr. Cross:

With Dr. Cross's lessons, some things I learned included how to listen to other instruments and how it is important to know the people who share the same parts as you. As well as, we learned new breathing techniques and the use of your jaw while playing which could be practiced by singing the pitch of the notes.

I am most proud of playing the high notes in Rites of Tamburo. Sometimes during practices, while playing the high notes in Rites of Tamburo the sound and tone would crack or cut while playing the really high notes. So, I was proud I played them correctly in the concert.
