Effective Communications Real Life Situation

One of the effective communications situation that happens a lot is with my mom. I was trying to talk to my mom about my day, so I kept calling my moms name while she was in the other room doing her emails. But, then my mom started to get really angry and mad at me because I kept annoying her. So, then I ended up feeling kind of upset, almost as if my mom didn't want to hear about my day. As well as, I felt a bit upset since my mom got a bit stressed and angry at me. But, I thought back to our effective communications presentations and I remembered one tool I really liked and needed to work on was working around my parents schedules. Later on, once my mom finished her emails, came back into the living room and sat down. I sat down with my mom and I told her I was sorry and now that I learnt to work around her schedule, as well as talked about my day. In the end, my mom was really impressed and finally glad I was going to start to work around her schedule. So, this tool is very useful and successful for me.

Band: Festival Concert Reflection 2015

I am most proud of how we all worked together allowing us to grow as musicians, work well together, and have a better concert. As well as, I am proud of how we were definitely more concentrated and respectful as audience members.

Of all the things I learned from Dr. Robblee throughout Festival week, the one thing that I will remember to use in my daily playing is the breathing techniques we learned, because when we breathed we could hear all of us breathing knowing when someone is about to play so it helps us play all together. I will also use the breathing techniques because when we got enough air in our lungs, our tone was a lot better on the first note and throughout the piece.

October 26: Interactive Map



The blue dots represent the earthquakes. Each shade of blue represent how strong/ level of the earthquake. For example, the darkest blue represents a 9 earthquake and the lightest blue represents a 5 earthquake. As well as, the other colours represent levels in between.

What I have discovered with this map is mostly all the earthquakes in South America go along the coastline of the West

Tennis



Two things I think I am doing well with my forehand swing is getting the drive through the racket, letting it swing up, and being able to hit the ball because even though I am not doing the body rotation I still have as swing getting a good drive. Another thing I think I am doing well is stepping forward to hit the ball, and before I hit the ball I am in ready position because being in ready position lets you be ready allowing me to move around faster to hit the ball.

Two things I need to work on with my forehand swing is rotation with my body,  I will improve with this by taking a few practice rotation swings before I start playing to remind me and get used to rotating. Another thing I need to work on is instead of hitting the ball right underneath making it go straight up, I need to keep it low but just to the side. To improve this I will alway have my racket at the side in the position so when it come I just need to get a quick drive, so my aim will be better.

What is the relevance of demographics to your life?

The relevance of demographics to my life is

The relevance of demographics to our life is to know what to plan for the future. For example, if you know that the birth rate has increased in your country you would want to start building more houses and apartments so there would be more living space for families and people moving overseas. Also, if you know that there are mainly elders living you your country, say Japan for example, you might want to start building a few more retirement homes. There are many more examples, demographics is very important, especially for the government. It is something that the world needs daily to make new improvements, more land, and some new government/business ideas.


How will issues related to demographics impact your life now and in the future?

Our Earth is starting to get even more crowded, but with too many people it is effecting our environment. One main part that we are effecting in our environment, is the air we breathe daily. In many places our air is being effected by the government is burning down trees to make more land, using chemicals in the air to effect the weather, the gases we give off by driving our cars, buses, etc., burning certain objects giving off bad chemicals in the air and of course smoke. There are many more ways that we are effecting our environment, it will badly impact us now and in the future

San Andres Fault, Transform Fault

For our project we decided to use San Andres Fault to show and explain a transform fault. San Andres Fault is known for having the most famous fault. A transform fault is where two rocks are side by side but the plate underneath each rocks are going into separate directions. So as you can see in the video the plate underneath, it is causing San Andres Fault to move so eventually in the future San Andres Fault will be from North America.

Age Of Ocean Floor Pre-Test

 1. Where are the oldest parts of the oceans?
The oldest parts of the oceans are the rocks and sands at the very bottom of the ocean because before there might have been the ocean water, there were always rocks built into the ground.


 2.  Do the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic ocean basins have the same age and patterns?
No, because each of the oceans were probably there years before the other oceans, but people don't know it. They definitely do not have the same patterns because each ocean has a different structure, currents, wind patterns change, etc.  

3. How does the age of the ocean floor compare with the age of rocks on the continents?
They could possibly be the same age because the rocks for the continents have always been there underneath the continents supporting it, and the ocean floor must have always been there because it is not like the people just placed rocks and sand at the ocean floor. Both of these items have excited forever and are a part of our natural earth, so I believe they are the same age.

Mathematical Reflections on Polygons

The common properties of polygons are...
 The common properties of polygons are a closed shape(no holes or intersections), a 2D shape, straight lines(no curved lines).










The measure of degrees in an angle tells me that the angle is ...
 An acute angle which is less than 90°. An obtuse angle which is greater than 90° but less than 180°. A straight angle which is 180°. Lastly, 360° which is a full turn.

Some common angles are 90 °(right), 180°(straight),  270°, 360°, 0°.











Some strategies to estimate angle measures are...
Using the initial side and terminal side is kind of a strategy, how to use the initial side is that the initial side always equals zero degrees, and then the terminal side is the angle so you have to guess that as close as possible angle, which leads to my next strategy, common angles. Using common angles are so helpful, so if you have an acute angle, first I would like to add in the 90 degree angle line then try to guess the main angle just by seeing how far away it is from the common angle. Using a protecter is the best one of all, how to use a protecter to draw an angle is first you draw a vertex in the middle of the whole. Then, draw an initial side line along the zero line on the protecter from the vertex. Then line up the zero line and the vertex to the whole and zero line. Find the angle you want then mark where that is. Lastly, draw a line connecting the mark to the vertex.

Week 2

1. What is the difference between an Observation and an Inference?
The difference between an observation and an inference is that an observation is what you find using your senses and measurements. But an inference is an educated guess of what happened or what something is, you don't find clues or important information like an observation, you just guess.

2. How can inferences and observations be related?
Observations and inferences can be related because you use both of them to figure out a certain something. And you get an observation and an inference by using senses.

3. Why are both observations and inferences important in science?
Inferences and observations are important in science because you always have to observe and take notes of changes happening, objects, etc. Also, inferences can be helpful trying to solve somethings.

What does wellness mean to you?
What wellness means to me is being fit and healthy. Doing your daily exercise and eating well. Living the right way.


What do you do on a daily basis to be well and healthy?
What I do on a daily basis to be well and healthy is that I make sure I have the right food to eat, so every night for dinner I have salad, during lunch my mom makes me healthy sandwiches, and I prefer to stay off snacks most times. As well as I like to include my self in sports and get daily exercise. Either if I go to the track, do some home yoga, or practice dance at home.

Rate your enjoyment of P.E? (1-poor 5-awesome)
What are your favorite things about P.E?
I would rate my enjoyment of P.E between 4 and 5, because P.E is so much fun and I love all the activities I do with my friends in P.E. But, sometimes some things have been a tiny bit challenging for me. My favorite things about P.E is getting active, learning new things, and having fun with it.


Rate your enjoyment of  Health? 1-5 (1=poor 5=awesome)

What are your favorite things about Health?
I rate my enjoyment of health a 4 because it was really funny and most of the activities were fun and enjoyable with friends. My favorite thing in health is getting to learn new things and having cool new brain breaks.

What would you change about the Health or PE program?
One thing we could change is putting in movement/ dance as one of our units because it is a really fun and a great way to move around. As well as, have a longer puberty unit.

How physically active have you been this year on a weekly basis? Share as many of the sports, select teams, intramural sports or activities that you participated in this year in 6th grade. Include activities you do both in and out of school.
I was on the B team for soccer at school this year and had practices on Mondays and Thursdays weekly. I was a part of the dance show so I was at practice on Fridays.

I am a good teammate because I give to my teams good sportsmanship, I respect each other equally, and I make sure each of us get a good game.

How have you shown leadership this year in PE? What qualities make you a good leader?
(If you have not taken the opportunity to lead this year what you could do to improve on this next year?)
I say I have shown leadership this year, when I was a leader once I made sure I treated everyone nicely and evenly. I made sure everyone got a fair game and was on task. My qualities that make me a good leader is that I treat everyone respectfully.

What is your strongest area of physical fitness? (strength, flexibility, cardio respiratory endurance) Which area do you need to work on?
My strongest area is cardio and a bit of strength. I could work on my flexibility.

Why do you think being physically active is important?
It keeps us fit and healthy. Helps us have a longer life and it makes us have a healthy mind, etc.

Describe your strengths and weaknesses eating ‘MyPlate’ 3 meals a day.
The strengths are is that you continue on a good and healthy food that keeps you active and isn't really bad food. But some weaknesses is that maybe sometimes it doesn't give as much vitamins or strength, whatever it is, enough a day, so you need to change it up.


What is your food goal? (Review your MyPlate blog post) Did you achieve your “food goal” or do you need to continue to work on it?
My S.M.A.R.T goal was to continue with my healthy snacks and a daily fruit. I have achieved my goal, it is just I need to improve sometimes on having my daily fruit.

How stressed have you been this semester?
I have been kind of stressed this semester with a lot of projects going on, there are more things to do since it is near the end of the year, there is a lot more work needed. But except for those things I have been fine.

What two strategies work best for you to reduce stress?
One of my strategies that works best for me is listening to music, it is joyful, fun, it can also be calming music. My second way is sometimes I just close my eyes for a second and think of good memories, or something fun to calm me down.

Basketball Reflection

 
In our basketball unit I think I did well at dribbling forward down a line kind of fast sometimes and something I could work on is looking up because when I tend to dribble I sometimes look down at the ball. As well as, work on shooting technique and sometimes driving forward more. I do think I could have done this concept better in a game situation because most times when the people gave the ball to me, it took me a while to think so I shot from where I caught the ball and sometimes I was unluky.

May 2015 Band Concert Reflection

Concert Reflection for May 12, 2015


1. Did you feel well prepared for this performance, why or why not? (ie: Did you do what was expected of you leading up to the concert?)

I felt kind of prepared for the concert. I felt like I was ready to play the pieces, I had everything I needed. But, I feel like maybe I didn't practice enough for our concert.


2. What was the strongest part of our performance, and why?

I say the strongest part of our concert was when we played our pieces, because we were all together, we followed the dynamics. We also strong at our pieces because we sound strong and it sounded good and the low brass weren't early or late for our back ground thumps.


3.  What was the weakest part of our performance, and why? What can we (and you) do to improve for next time?

I think that for next concert we could work on between each pieces we shouldn't talk because it kind of probably looks bad from the audience. As well as, we looked a the audience a lot and were a bit off task so sometimes we could have been a bit more focused than how we were in the concert


4. On a scale from 1 to 5, (5 being the best) how would you rate the overall band students’ behavior as audience members for this concert?  Why? (no names please)

Probably a 3 because some of us were actually paying attention to the other people playing, but I do think that some of the time some of us talked quite a bit, even during a performance. So next time we should listen more and talk less.


5. What was your favorite piece and why?

My favorite piece was The Lost Tomb because I just loved how sometimes it was soft with flutes, then like an adventure with the low brasses heartbeat. As well as, there was a lot going on and we played it really well and it sounded like a story. Also, the piece was just amazing as is.

Science Circuit Board


These two pictures here are the front and back of my circuit board that I made in class. How it works is the electricity or the real term is electrons that runs through the wire at the back connecting to the paper fasteners which is also a metal source which is a conductor. So when we have the wires that are connected to batteries, the battery, being a voltage source, could fire up electricity and electrons. When the stripped end of the wire hits the paper fastener of the question and answer, the wire connecting them at the back will run the electrons to the paper faster next to the question's corresponding answer, then the other wire connecting the light bulb, then the bulb turns on. The bulb will light up when you have the wires on correct paper fasteners it will make a complete circuit and light up the light bulb. It makes a current complete circuit

Band: Concert Reflection March 2015

March 11, 2015 Concert Reflection

What is expected of me as a performer:  

  1. What do I need to do leading up to the performance in terms of my own practicing?  
Well I should always put in at least a few more minutes of practice time before a concert so I can really get everything right for a good performance.
  1. What is my responsibility on stage during a performance?
Well many things, not talk or goof around, pay very close attention, have proper posture, and play as nicely as I can play. And if somebody starts to goof around tell them to stop.
  1. What will I do differently in preparing for the next concert?
Next concert something different that I will do for preparing is probably practice a bit more if there are still things in the song I haven’t exceeded.


What is expected of me as an audience member:

  1. What do I need to be doing while someone is performing?
Listening to the performer and not talking to friends because it is rude. As well as, maybe even if your friend is talking I can tell them to stop.
  1. What do I need to do after someone has performed?
Clap for them and congratulate them, as well as still don’t talk.
  1. What should I do if people around me are not being good audience members?
Whisper to them them to be quiet and listen or to stop whatever they were doing. But if they don’t stop get and adult to talk to them.
  1. What will I do differently as an audience member for next concert?
Next concert something that I will do differently as an audience member is make my friends talk less and probably even a bit of myself.

I am most proud of…

Being able to perform really well without messing up a lot. As well as,  having a fantastic, successful first concert!

Science Aquatic Protists

The protist that you see in the video here is a Tubiflex worm. A multicellular worm that is mainly found in ponds. Tubiflex worms move through the water by franticly moving in "S" curves. Which not only helps for transportation, but also eating. Some interesting facts about this multicellular is that it also carries around tape worm.






The protist that you see in the video here is a     Daphnia Pulex, a multicellular organism. It is found in water bases. The Daphnia Pulex can't do with stong currents for their small legs and antennas used to help them swim. So small pools mainly do for them. Daphnia have a diet of bacteria, fine detritus, and small algae particles.The daphnia pulex was the first crustacean to have its genome sequenced.

Math Reflection


Today in math we had to solve the equation 3/4 divided by 1/8. How I figured out this problem is I did the reciprocal system, an easy way to remind me how to properly do it is CCF ( Copy, Change, Flip). How it works is you keep the first number they same, (copy) then you change the order of math. So, we will change the division to multiplication. Lastly, you flip the number, so instead of 1/8 we will flip it to 8/1. So multiply 3/4 by 8/1 and there is your answer. Which is 6!

Among The Free Book Review

Over the Winter Break I reread one of my favorite books, it's called Among The Free By Margaret Peterson Haddix. It is apart of the Among The Hidden series. I would rate this book and series a five star.

I can't really summaries just this book because it is the last book in the series, and it will be very confusing. So... In the city they live in, they cannot have more then two children because they government believes that the city will over populate and no one can keep up with farming food for them. So, they can only have two kids. But this family has "adopted" (you will figure out what that means in the book) this boy named Luke, but he is a third child. And keep him hidden. He figures there is something wrong with their neighbors. He takes a trip there and finds a pleasant surprise. And that is how this entire series happened of conflict, sadness, happiness, etc.

Some of the main author's craft I really like in this book was how at least in every other page there was a cliff hanger which made me always want to keep on reading. As well as, the emotion she puts in the book really makes you feel it in person, which is what I love in a book.

I would really recommend this book for people who enjoy more of like a not so happy book, feeling the emotion in books, and especially cliff hangers. Enjoy!
