Lim Kim San

Have you ever wondered what Lim Kim San had done to help out Singapore? Well let’s just say Lim Kim San has done so many amazing things to help out Singapore in it’s previous times. He has done so much in the HDB services and helping out the poor. Before I did research on Lim Kim San, I never really knew what he did. But once you read through and see what it’s like to be in his shoes, you will never realize how many amazing things he had done. Lim Kim San has made a big difference on Singapore’s history, let me show you some of the amazing things that have happened.

Lim Kim San not only felt deeply for the poor, but he did more than just that. Lim Kim San also took a lot of time to find and make houses for the poor that were affordable for them. He even went out to help and care for the poor people, even give them clothes or food sometimes. Lim Kim San was very caring for the poor people. Lim Kim San did anything to make sure everyone had the right home. One time he made a challenge for himself to make everyone have the right home. Lim Kim San built 20,000 units of housing in twenty years! Lim Kim San made these houses affordable, good quality, and public so everyone can have a good home to live in. After building all these houses Lim Kim San won the Dajah Utam Temasek award. (In honor of Temasek/ Singapore)  Even the Ramon Magsaysay award after this huge accomplishment. Lim Kim San made a huge difference to Singapore just to help out the people, as well as to be very caring for the poor. Lim Kim San hasn’t only just make a difference, but he has made an effect to change. When more people came to Singapore and they needed more units of housing, Lim Kim San made 10,00 to 13,000 housing units in 1962- 1969. As well as Lim Kim San built 26,168 houses. Lim Kim San hasn’t only just effected change with housing, he has done more to effect change in Singapore’s history.

Lim Kim San had some downs in his life, but how did he deal with it? One of the struggles that Lim Kim San has had in his life was when his wife had died in 1994. It was so hard for him to get over his wife’s death, sometimes he wished he could someday soon go up with her, but he couldn’t make it happen. Luckily his grandchildren and great grandchildren helped him get along. Another struggle for  Lim Kim San was that he didn’t even get paid a cent. It must be hard to not get paid a cent, even when he has five or six children to take care of, which some of them still live with him. It also must have been a bit hard after his wife died. But Lim Kim San was still happy because his job made him happy still since he could help out the poor and make everything right for the Singaporeans. As well as his daughter was always there for him. Lastly a big struggle even that happened to Lim Kim San was that during the Japanese occupation. Lim Kim San was tortured on being suspicious of being a pro- communist and a pro- British. Luckily Lim Kim San survived the horror and even made a vow for the people of “ Never let our fate be decided by others.” Lim Kim San  has had some sad tragedies, but luckily like everyone we get through it.

Empathising Lim Kim San is like a whole new adventure. I couldn’t stop getting a bunch of ideas of how it is like being in Lim Kim San’s shoes. One thing that really stood out for me when I was in Lim Kim San’s shoes is how it is like to be having a responsibility on helping out the poor. Lim Kim San was very determined to help out the poor and he really enjoyed and it also made him feel good about himself doing what he did to help out the poor. But sometimes it could be difficult if the poor aren’t really helping you do what you are doing. Also while people are discouraging him on what he is doing while is has a lot of wealth on his job. Another thing that stood out for me while I was in Lim Kim San’s shoes was his job as a leader in the Housing and Development board (HDB). He was devoted to helping out others, and making them the right houses. But he did have stress with all the challenges he had to make lots of houses in a certain amount of time. As well as he had a burden on making houses, it was a big responsibility when a lot of people came to Singapore. Once you go into Lim Kim San’s shoes, even though how much he says he enjoys his job, he has some bad moments and stress on his job.

After I was in Lim Kim San’s shoes, I learned so much about how much about how he has made a big difference to Singapore. I was so amazed of how much work he had to do and the struggles he had, but he always smiled and was full joy. If I was Lim Kim San and would be so frustrated of all the challenges and struggles. But I would at least still be happy to have a joyful life and help out the poor. Lim Kim San has taught us all a lot of how much we can make a difference, and enjoy it at the same time.
